Custody Determinations

Quick Facts
  • Divorce court has authority to make custody determination.
  • Court can modify child custody orders.

The court that has jurisdiction over a dissolution, legal separation, or child custody proceeding may be asked by the parent to make custody determinations. The court having jurisdiction may, at the request and after a hearing, issue, revise, modify, or amend any order that affects the parents' custody arrangement of their minor child. Of course, this only applies to Minnesota family law.
