Grandparent Visitation Rights

Quick Facts
  • Grandparents do not automatically have visitation rights..

In a dissolution or legal separation proceeding, after the proceeding begins or at any time after completion of the proceedings, and continuing while the children are still minors, the court may make a parenting time order granting visitation rights to grandparents in accordance with Minnesota law. The court will not automatically do this; the request must be made by the parents or grandparents.
