Any judgment or decree of dissolution or legal separation containing a requirement of child support, any determination of parentage, and certain other orders must include a notice to the parents that interest begins accruing on a payment or installment of child support whenever the unpaid amount due is greater than the current support due.
The only way an unpaid balance can exist is if a payment is not made on time. Interest will begin to be charged on this amount as soon as the payment is late.
