Alternative Dispute Resolution

Quick Facts
  • ADR is sometimes required in MN divorce proceedings.
  • ADR, such as mediation, can be a less expensive alternative to litigation.

The Minnesota legislature has determined that parties to a divorce should attempt to solve their differences using alternative dispute resolution. Alternative dispute resolution includes mediation, arbitration, and other processes.

In some cases, you may be required to participate in ADR. I do not act as a neutral, but I can represent you in the alternative dispute resolution process or recommend the right sources to contact. Furthermore, I have close associations with a highly professional and experienced mediator.

If you are a victim of domestic abuse or threats of abuse as defined in Minnesota law, then you are not required to try mediation, and you will not be penalized by the court in later proceedings.
