The court may award temporary spousal maintenance and temporary child support. The court may also award to either spouse the right to the exclusive use of the household goods and furniture of the spouses and the right to the use of the homestead, exclusive or otherwise, pending the proceeding. The court may order either spouse to vacate the homestead after proper application to the court for such an order.
If the factors suggest a permanent spousal maintenance award would be more appropriate, then a temporary award will not be given preference over the permanent award.
If the necessity of a permanent award is uncertain, then the court will order a permanent award and leave the order open for later modification.
